Centre for Reception History of the Bible (CRHB)
Description
The Centre for Reception History of the Bible (CRHB) was established in 2002 and has been instrumental in emphasising the importance of biblical reception while challenging traditional disciplinary boundaries. Situated within the Faculty of Theology and Religion at Oxford University, this interdisciplinary research centre aims to facilitate collaboration among scholars studying biblical texts across various disciplines in the Humanities. Its primary focus is to explore the utilisation and impact of the Bible.
The Centre hosts a regular seminar series called 'The Bible in Art, Music and Literature' during University term time, organises conferences, and publishes works that delve into the reception history of the Bible.
The Centre's main objective is to investigate the diverse interpretations of the Bible, including its reception in different cultural mediums such as literature, art, and music. It strives to achieve the following goals:
- Establish a research network that concentrates on the utilization and influence of the Bible.
- Facilitate exchange between scholars working on the biblical text from different faculties and universities, providing a dynamic platform for them to meet and engage in dialogue.
- Promote an interpretative approach to biblical texts that underscores the significance of the history of interpretation through regular seminars, day conferences, international conferences, and publications.
