Calleva Research Centre
Description
The Calleva Centre, located at Magdalen College, Oxford, is an interdisciplinary research centre that aims to deepen understanding of human behaviour, its origins, development, causes, and functions, as well as the challenges faced by humanity. It was established in 2010 as the Calleva Research Centre for Evolution and Human Science through a generous donation from an Old Member of Magdalen College. In 2022, the centre was re-established.
The Calleva Centre has two main objectives. Firstly, it provides funding and support for interdisciplinary research projects led by Fellows at Magdalen College. Secondly, it funds and supports interdisciplinary research engagement opportunities both within the college and throughout Oxford. These opportunities encompass academic working groups and regular public lectures known as the Calleva Seminars.
Throughout its history, the Centre has awarded grants to teams of Magdalen Fellows from diverse disciplines such as anthropology, biochemistry, classics, economics, evolutionary biology, history, neuroscience, literature, and psychology. Currently, the Centre is supporting seven grants at various stages of progress. Typically, these grants involve several postdoctoral researchers and PhD students, in addition to the affiliated Fellows.
