IDEA: The Ethics Centre
Description
IDEA (Inter-Disciplinary Ethics Applied) is a centre based at the Univerity of Leeds.
We are a group of trained philosophers and ethicists with interests across a wide range of applied philosophy and ethical issues (e.g. just war, AI, environment and sustainability, ethics of love and sex, leadership ethics and so on).
We:
- teach applied philosophy and ethics to students in many other disciplines (e.g. business, engineering, medicine and dentistry), as well as run our own MA progammes and supervise PhD students;
- carry out research on a range of topic and questions;
- host conferences and workshops;
- engage the general public in various ethical issues.
We also have a Consultancy and Training arm where we engage with professionals from various sectors to train, write professional codes, offer consultancy advice, etc. Such examples include work with public health officials on how to engage the general public in issues of public health ethics; working with actuaries in developing professional codes; advising banking and financial regulators on ethical issues facing their profession; developing ethical training for many professionals in public, private and third sector organisations.
