Histories and Cultures of Conflict (HACC)

Description

HACC explores the ways in which war and conflict have shaped, and continue to shape, societies and
cultures, through the application of innovative and path-breaking methodologies to new and
established areas. While we recognise the importance of conflict in history, we also aim to highlight
how war is inevitably linked to peace. Our aim is to support colleagues – including permanent staff,
postdocs, and postgraduate students – in the production of ground-breaking research and
engagement with audiences beyond academia. To do so, the group brings together experts across all
periods of history, looking to explore conflict from the macro to the micro.
HACC is made up of thematic priority clusters, with groups of researchers primarily working on:
 Cultural history of war
 Digital histories of war
 Geographies and topographies of war
 Inclusion and exclusion of returning soldiers
 The challenges and dynamics of new modes of warfare
