Institute of Creative Technologies

Description

The Institute of Creative Technologies (IOCT) is an interdisciplinary research community exploring the roles and applications of creative technologies.

Our researchers create new knowledge, synthesizing practice-based research with pioneering advances in digital computing, information technologies, creative practice, science and engineering.

We support knowledge exchange and public engagement activities. We are always looking to develop new collaborative partnerships with projects that harness creative technologies to push cultural boundaries.

Since the foundation of the IOCT in 2006, our creative technologies researchers, together with our post graduate student community, have delivered and contributed to a breadth of world leading projects on creative computing, developing new insights into emerging digital culture and creative technologies communities of practice, supported growth strategies for creative and heritage industries, devised new practices for performance arts, and contributed to conceptual understanding and practical applications of gamification, virtual production and creative AI.  Our work crosses multiple disciplines and is often delivered in close collaboration with industry partners and practitioners.  Our projects have been funded by UKRI councils such as EPSRC, AHRC and Innovate UK, Arts Council England and by EU and international others, and our publications are cited in internationally recognized digital and performance arts, management and technologies journals and conferences.
