Centre for Crime and Policing

Description

The Centre for Crime and Policing responds to key 21st century challenges relating to crime, harm and justice through the work of colleagues from all Faculties of Northumbria University, working both individually and collectively. We respond to emerging challenges such as online and digital harm, terrorism, environmental crime, organised crime, and the impact of crime and harm on vulnerable communities. Much of this is cross-national and extends beyond the ‘traditional’ remit of police services and the criminal justice sector to include public sector agencies, and private and third sector organisations.

The Centre aims to provide a platform to showcase the work of colleagues to external academic and practitioner audiences. This is done through a range of mediums including a monthly seminar series, research away days, conferences and events. Overall, the Centre is committed to producing collaborative and ambitious research as part of its reputation at Northumbria as a world-leading, research-intensive university. From informing policy and practice to providing high quality, wide-ranging, cutting-edge science and applied research, the Centre raises awareness of key issues whilst providing ambitious solutions to important challenges affecting society.
