Oral History Team, Hertfordshire
Description
The University of Hertfordshire’s award-winning Oral History Team believes that ‘Memories Matter’. The Oral History Team is a dynamic group of students, staff and members of the local community, who are professionally trained in the arts of interviewing, going on to take part in memory-gathering projects.
The original files are stored in the University archive. This web site gives free public access to those recordings that the interviewees have agreed to make freely available. The archive was constructed with the support of an award from the University of Hertfordshire Charitable Trust to commemorate the University’s 60th anniversary in 2012.
The team, led by Senior Research Fellow Andrew Green and Dr Leanne Calvert, and is a lively mix of students, staff and community members. We offer training in oral history to all members, and to community groups, heritage organisations, and businesses to create and capture historical evidence and memories.
The team can:
- Advise about the development of oral history projects
- Deliver oral history training for local heritage groups or businesses
- Organise and capture oral histories, either as a ‘create an oral history archive in a day’ project or over a longer period
- Preserve oral history recordings in the University of Hertfordshire archive
- Present oral history recordings and memories on the UH Oral History Archive site
