The History of Parliament Trust
Description
The History of Parliament is a research project creating a comprehensive account of parliamentary politics in England, Britain and then the United Kingdom, from their origins in the thirteenth century. Generally regarded as one of the most ambitious, authoritative and well-researched projects in British history, the History of Parliament is active in promoting engagement with Parliament's heritage.
Founded before the Second World War, the History of Parliament is the brainchild of Josiah Wedgwood MP. It was later revived after the war by a number of the greatest British historians of the day. At the History of Parliament’s core is the production of biographies of MPs and peers, as well as constituency profiles and wider surveys of elections and electoral politics throughout time. The History’s first set of volumes, edited by Sir Lewis Namier, were published in 1964. We have now published 65 volumes, containing more than 27,000 biographical articles and 3,000 constituency articles, from 1386 to 1832. The majority of our articles are available to view and search at www.historyofparliamentonline.org
