Society for Name Studies in Britain and Ireland (SNSBI)

Description

The Society for Name Studies in Britain and Ireland, formed in 1991, exists to promote the study of place-names, personal names, and other names. It has members within and beyond Britain and Ireland, some of them academics (students or staff) in relevant fields, but most from other walks of life.

We share a fascination with names and all they can reveal about the diverse peoples, languages, histories, and landscapes of Britain and Ireland. We work closely with colleagues in the English, Scottish, Welsh, and Ulster Place-Name Societies, and seek to encourage dialogue and comparative work as well as providing a major platform for research into the personal names of Britain and Ireland.

We run conferences and publish our journal Nomina to promote research into names. We are currently working to add to our online resources for anyone who is curious about names.
