Psychiatry and the Arts in Nineteenth-Century Britain
Description
The AHRC-funded network ‘Psychiatry and the Arts in Nineteenth-Century Britain’ aims to draw together scholars working on different aspects of the history of the intersection between the arts and psychiatry, chiefly in the content of nineteenth-century British mental health care. It also seeks to open conversations and identify synergies between scholars of history and practitioners in the creative arts, healthcare and heritage sectors.
The Network is organising four events during the 2023-24 period, including two online seminars and a conference. It intends to publish a collection of essays, as well as further material associated with the project. We are particularly interested in hearing from practitioners who would like to engage with historians, finding new directions for research, public engagement and impact.
