Gaskell Society

Description

Promotes the life, work and legacy of Elizabeth Gaskell.

The Society runs biennial conferences, monthly talks, and discussion groups on the life, work and circle of Elizabeth Gaskell and her contemporaries. Some presentations are also connected with 19th century life, particularly in Manchester and Knutsford.

We have a comprehensive website which is kept updated with blogs on Elizabeth Gaskell's life, writing and her contemporaries, some of this is new research. The website also advertises current events both within the society and at Elizabeth Gaskell's House in Manchester. We also provide links to academic research on Gaskell, along with a comprehensive bibliography of her works and any avaiable criticism on her writings. This is regularly updated.

The society publishes an annual scholarly journal and two newsletter a year which are free to members.

As well as the North West branch, the society has a London branch and a branch in Japan. We also have many international scholars who are society members.
