Centre for Medieval and Early Modern Studies

Description

The Centre for Medieval and Early Modern Studies exists to provide a forum for a diverse range of scholars, chiefly located in the School of Arts, Languages, and Cultures at the University of Manchester but otherwise somewhat scattered across different disciplines (English literature, History, Art History, Spanish and Portuguese studies, Italian studies, Linguistics).

It is associated with an MA in Medieval and Early Modern Studies based in the School and in the John Rylands Library. It serves as a forum that unifies the various named annual lectures in the field (such as the Brook Lecture in Middle English Studies, the Toller Lecture in Old English, the Herford Lecture in Italian studies, and others).

It operates as an umbrella forum for diverse work across the period c.500 CE to c.1800 CE, in the various disciplines named above.
