Centre for Theology and Public Issues

Description

The Centre for Theology and Public Issues (CTPI) is the world’s first centre for research in public theology and continues to have a strong international reputation in the global field of public theology, contributing in turn to the international reputation of the School of Divinity. Over its 40-year history, and against a background of very dramatic shifts in both the religious and the academic environment, the Centre has maintained a dual commitment: to engaging a broad public with academic research in theology, for the public good, and to fostering excellent theological research on issues of public concern. We see this dual commitment – put another way, to ‘making theological research public’ and to ‘doing research in public theology’ – as a productive tension that, handled effectively, can lead to genuinely path-breaking engaged research that serves the public good.
