Domestic Abuse Research Network (DARNet)

Description

Established in 2019 by Dr Olumide Adisa, the Domestic Abuse Research Network (DARNet) is situated within the Institute for Social Justice and Crime. Its primary aim is facilitating knowledge exchange in the realm of domestic abuse by linking practitioners and academics with contemporary issues and research. Despite the initial focus on promoting collaboration across Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex, and Cambridge, DARNet has since expanded its partnerships to include organisations, researchers, practitioners, and survivors across the UK.

DARNet embraces an inclusive, policy-centric, practice-focused, and intersectional perspective, creating 'research that matters'. It emphasises the experiences of victim-survivors, particularly those from marginalised communities like migrants, Black, Asian, and other racially minoritised individuals, LGBTQIA+ and disabled people. The network has produced research on various abuse-related topics, such as stalking, honour-based abuse, and forced marriages.

Objectives:

  • Identification and development of key research priorities and collaborative partnerships.
  • Dissemination of high-quality local, national, and international research to pertinent regional domestic abuse boards.
  • Enhancement of research and evaluation capacities of voluntary organisations and statutory agencies.
  • Establishment of an active virtual network for regular knowledge sharing and discussion.
  • Support for specialist working group activities.

DARNet invites participation from anyone interested in domestic abuse and intersecting areas, including child abuse, exploitation, honour abuse, forced marriage, FGM/C, harmful practices, stalking, sexual violence, harassment, abuse, and femicide.

The network is now represented by over 20 universities and over 300 members.
