Imperial War Museum (IWM)
Description
IWM is a global authority on conflict and its impact on people’s lives. The museum collects objects and stories that give an insight into people’s experiences of war, preserve them for future generations, and bring them to today’s audiences in the most powerful way possible.
As an Independent Research Organisation, the IWM works in partnership with leading universities on academic research project that provide new insight into the history of war and conflict. The IWM also hosts students studying its world class collections through the Collaborative Doctoral scheme.
In November 2020 IWM launched the IWM Institute, its hub for research, development and knowledge exchange exploring the links between past conflicts, the contemporary world and future conflict. Building on a pilot programme begun in 2018, the Institute delivers an annual public lecture and a podcast series, convenes a network of associates, and supports collaborative doctoral research with UK universities, working with partners including Queen Mary University of London, the University of Edinburgh, Swansea University, the University of Leeds and the University of the Arts London.
