Materialities of Care Research Network
Description
"The Materialities of Care" constitutes an interdisciplinary research network probing into the intersection of material culture, health, and social care. It unites various professionals - academics, researchers, museum curators, artists, and others, all intrigued by the subject. This network delves into how everyday items, such as objects, attire, interiors, and architecture, interweave with health and social care experiences, and mediate practices, identities, and the physical experiences of health and illness. The network is a confluence of several disciplines: sociology, history, archaeology, architecture, geography, and museum studies, plus museum curators, artists, and other practitioners.
Its foundation stemmed from a two-day event, "Materialities of Care: Encountering Health and Illness Through Objects, Artefacts, and Architecture," held at the University of York from 16th to 17th September 2015, underpinned by funding from the Foundation for the Sociology of Health and Illness.
