York Centre for Conflict and Security
Description
The York Centre for Conflict and Security (YCCS) is an interdisciplinary research and practice centre addressing global security challenges and the causes of international and civil conflicts. The research topics encompass nuclear proliferation, global health security, post-civil war peacebuilding, political violence, gender issues, and terrorism. Under the aegis of the Politics Department, the Centre collaborates globally, utilising innovative, interdisciplinary approaches to handle security challenges.
The Centre organises lectures, workshops and seminars throughout the year, focusing on all facets of international and national conflicts, with speakers from around the world. It comprises approximately 25 researchers, generating ground-breaking interdisciplinary research examining the causes and effects of global conflicts. Fieldwork is conducted in worldwide conflict zones and their insights contribute to policy discussions on critical global challenges such as nuclear proliferation and post-conflict reconstruction.
YCCS, in collaboration with government, international organisations, and the third sector, brings together leading researchers to generate policy-relevant research on conflict and security.
