The Department of Philosophy boasts significant research capabilities within the Ethics cluster, with a focus extending across applied, normative, and meta-ethics.
The department comprises a balanced assembly of utilitarian and deontological philosophers. Their research areas include value theory, population ethics, consequentialism in its various forms, the nature of reasons, and rationality and responsibility. The philosophical works of Bentham, Kant, and Fichte are studied concurrently with inquiries into the essence and purpose of morality, fictionalism, realism, and constructivism.
Furthermore, the department harbours specialists in bioethics, AI ethics, public health ethics, and religious ethics.
