York Art History Collaborations (YAHCs)
Description
Inaugurated by the Department of History of Art at the University of York in January 2016, York Art History Collaborations (YAHCs) manages the department's existing affiliations and fosters future partnerships. With a long-standing repute for collaboration with museums, art galleries, and heritage organisations, the department firmly believes in enriching both research and teaching through such synergies.
Notable partnerships include those with the National Gallery, London, Tate Museums, the Victoria and Albert Museum, and York Museums Trust, among others. Relationships also extend to various museums, galleries and country estates in Northern England. The faculty frequently curate and co-curate exhibitions locally and internationally, with past shows attracting over a million visitors.
In addition to exhibitions, joint research projects have garnered more than £2.5 million in AHRC funding over the past decade. Collaboration also extends to students, with co-supervision of PhDs and a programme for MA studentships that allows practical experience in research. In 2017, a new BA degree in Curating and Art History was introduced, offering students the opportunity for placements with local heritage organisations.
