Centre for Digital Heritage (CDH)

Description

The CDH was established in 2012 to provide a focus for researchers from across the University of York with an interest in all fields of digital heritage, including data management, analysis and visualisation.

In 2013 the Centre received funding to develop a collaborative international research centre with partners in Aarhus, Leiden and Uppsala. From then, the centre has moved from strength to strength, including by welcoming Lund University to the network.

Based in the Department of Archaeology, the Centre for Digital Heritage (CDH) is built on collaborations with researchers across all three faculties of the University of York.

The Centre is made up of a group of six key universities, with a variety of additional partners and collaborators both local and international.

The objectives of the Centre are to undertake research and knowledge exchange in:

  • Data and information management and preservation of digital data.
  • The use of digital media (including internet and computer games technologies, and video and sound) for the dissemination and publication of cultural heritage.
  • ICT applications for cultural heritage recording and presentation.
  • Augmented reality and virtual reality modelling, including both acoustic and 3D modelling, of cultural heritage resources.
  • The impact of digital media on public interaction with cultural heritage, both tangible and intangible.

Some of the research focus areas include:

  • information management;
  • digital media in dissemination and publication;
  • augmented and virtual reality modelling;
  • cultural heritage recording and presentation.
