Warwick Interdisciplinary Research Centre for International Development (WICID)
Description
Established in 2019, the Warwick Interdisciplinary Research Centre for International Development (WICID) is dedicated to addressing global issues of inequality, poverty, and socio-economic changes. WICID emphasises an interdisciplinary, critical approach through the joint creation and exchange of knowledge. This approach is aimed at fostering collaboration across institutions and disciplines to produce outstanding research.
The WICID Methods Lab focuses on developing innovative and interdisciplinary methodologies to support collaborative research and effect change. These resources are available on an open access basis to all individuals involved in international development.
International Development, as a discipline, is at a pivotal point, transitioning towards a comprehensive understanding of global development issues. WICID, through its worldwide networks, facilitates a contextual and critical approach to these matters. The ambition is to establish WICID as a collaborative hub for leading-edge research on international development, contributing to progressive change.
WICID undertakes several activities to support and generate interdisciplinary research, including seminars and reading groups, hosting fellows at the Methods Lab, providing seed funding for interdisciplinary research projects, and partnering with scholars, policy makers, and practitioners for the dissemination of insights.
The centre's vision includes fostering new thinking across disciplines, conducting research on key issues shaping international development, and generating impact through knowledge exchange programmes. It aims to establish a collaborative network and focus on research themes like gender, peace and conflict, mobility, and health.
The WICID Methods Lab develops suitable methodologies for research and fosters global networks. This lab collaborates with global partners for critical knowledge exchange and developing innovative indicators for advancing rigorous research. They also explore enhanced engagement through digital media and produce working papers and academic publications that directly influence policy-making and review.
