Warwick Mind and Action Research Centre (WMA)
Description
The Warwick Mind and Action Research Centre (WMA) aims to facilitate endeavours in the philosophy of mind, philosophy of action, and associated disciplines, with an emphasis on collaborative work between philosophers and psychologists. Its core interests encompass perceptual experience, consciousness, attention, perceptual knowledge, episodic memory, temporal understanding, causal comprehension, self-awareness, first- and second-person thought, social understanding development, delusions, agency, and action explanation.
Originally, the Centre came into existence through an AHRC-funded interdisciplinary project on Consciousness and Self-Consciousness. Between 2004 and 2008, it administered a project on Causal Understanding. A new initiative, the Second Person Project, was initiated in 2012. Some Centre members contribute to the interdisciplinary Rethinking the Senses project, housed at the Institute of Philosophy, London, established in 2013. More details about ongoing research endeavours are available on the Centre's website.
Several Centre affiliates have served on the European Society for Philosophy and Psychology (ESPP) Committee, and the Centre's director held the presidency of the ESPP. The Centre organises graduate research seminars, conferences, discussion groups, seminar series, and workshops. It also maintains close ties with the MA in Philosophy programme.
