Sports Culture and Communication Research Group

Description

The Sports Culture and Communication Research Group investigates the complexities and challenges of communication within professional sports teams. They explore questions pertaining to the nature of communication required by leaders, the tactics employed by coaches and captains to maintain robust professional interpersonal relationships, the role of silent members within teams, the impact of communication on team culture, and the unique communication issues multicultural teams may encounter.

The group analyses language use to gain insights that enhance understanding of the communication issues faced by high-performance athletes, coaches, and managers. Their research not only contributes to the theoretical aspects of effective professional communication and the fostering of supportive team cultures, but also aids athletes, coaches, managers, and high-performance sports programmes in improving awareness and skills in these crucial areas.
