Centre for Television Histories
Description
The Centre for Television Histories, formerly known as the Centre for Television History, Heritage and Memory Research, is a multidisciplinary hub that encourages the study of television's historical and cultural impact. Situated within the University of Warwick's Department of Film and Television Studies, it is linked closely with the Centre for Cultural and Media Policy Studies and works in partnership with Connecting Cultures. It concentrates on television history and promotes innovative methodologies and practices. The Centre's members approach television from diverse critical viewpoints, examining its content, culture, and industrial practices to forge innovative paths in television research.
Established in 2015, the Centre initially focused on television history, heritage, and memory research, promoting research, learning, engagement, impact, and collaboration. The Centre aims to highlight research on a national and international scale, attract top-tier scholars and students, foster collaborative research and learning amongst Warwick scholars, and create international and interdisciplinary research and teaching opportunities. It also seeks to secure external funding for television history preservation, forge connections with the television industry and public institutions, enhance access to television archives, participate in public discourse about television's societal and cultural value, and contribute to postgraduate training.
