Global History and Culture Centre
Description
The Global History and Culture Centre, established in 2007, plays a significant role within the Department of History and the broader university. The Centre's members, with expertise in Africa, the Americas, Asia, and Europe, mainly focus on the connections between these regions. The Centre spearheads the development of global history, making it an integral part of historical studies.
Furthermore, the Centre hosts various research projects and fellowships, supported by different funding bodies. Activities include teaching, graduate research, academic publishing, welcoming visiting academic fellows, engaging in research networks, and organising symposia, conferences, and seminar series. Current research projects are diverse, such as Global Coventry, Water-security and violence in Kenya, and Nootka Sound: Indigenous Spaces, Global Trade and Empire 1774-1815.
The Centre's research encompasses three primary strands: Material life in a Globalising World, Power and Politics in the Colonial and Postcolonial World, and Science and Environment.
The proposed research area aligns with the 'History' and 'Political Science and International Studies' categories of the AHRC.
