Centre for the Study of the Renaissance
Description
The University of Warwick's Centre for the Study of the Renaissance, endorsed by the Arts Faculty, specialises in research, education, and outreach related to the era from the fourteenth to the seventeenth century. The Centre explores Renaissance Studies in an interdisciplinary manner, fostering international collaboration and intersecting activities with medieval and early modern studies.
Warwick University's interdisciplinary study of the Renaissance dates back to 1964. The History of Art department, established in 1974, augmented the university's academic ties with Italy.
From 1999 to 2004, the Centre integrated the AHRB Centre for the Study of Renaissance Elites and Court Cultures with funding of £1.7 million. This incorporated research on Italian Renaissance elites and a project focused on the public processions of Queen Elizabeth and King James the First. Members were awarded an AHRB Resource Enhancement Grant for the digitisation of the British Library's collection of Festival Books.
The Centre's specialisations include religious, political and social history, manuscript studies, print culture, history of the book, late-medieval to early modern thought and intellectual culture, medieval and Renaissance literature, theatre, and performance, and the visual arts.
