Literature Across Frontiers
Description
The European Platform for Literary Exchange, Translation and Policy Debate, Literature Across Frontiers (LAF), was founded in 2001 with European Union support. Its headquarters is at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David in Wales, UK, specifically at the Centre for Advanced Welsh and Celtic Studies near the National Library of Wales. LAF partners with various European and international entities to promote literary diversity, stimulate intercultural dialogue through literature and translation, spotlight less-translated works, and forge connections between literary circles, fostering exchange and collaboration opportunities.
LAF initiates short and long-term projects, organises seminars and workshops, conducts research, engages in strategic policy discussions, and provides online resources and data on the international literary sector. This setup affords LAF the flexibility traditional organisational structures may lack and promotes a non-hierarchical, democratic governance style that encourages active participation at all project stages, from planning and implementation to evaluation, with contributions from diverse sources.
In the UK, LAF collaborates with the Wales Literature Exchange, Wales PEN Cymru, and numerous other partners. Post-Brexit, it has founded Culture Reset, a new organisation located within the EU.
