Social Science in the City (SSC)
Description
The "Social Science in the City" (SSC) is a public engagement initiative by UWE Bristol, dedicated to fostering discussions on pressing societal issues relating to lifestyle, globalisation, and environmental, economic, and political challenges. This free public event encourages dialogues between speakers, audiences, and diverse members of UWE Bristol, including partners and affiliates, through various platforms.
Supported by the School of Social Sciences and the College of Health, Science and Society at UWE Bristol, this initiative aims to integrate academic research and public understanding in a relaxed setting. SSC also serves as a growing hub for information dissemination, resource sharing, and the development of applied social research and educational programmes.
SSC covers key themes such as Equalities, Justice and Belonging; Sustainability and Environment; Creativity and Innovation; and Health and Wellbeing. Formats include Politics Café, Thinking Aloud, Better Bristol, Thought in Action, and Let’s Debate! The team, primarily from the School of Social Sciences within the College of Health, Science and Society, welcomes new format suggestions to further enrich SSC's inventiveness.
