Document and Location Research Group
Description
The Document and Location research group examines the impact of various disciplinary interpretations and narratives on the perception of place and the creation of place identity through representation.
Their research will facilitate a public programme of exhibitions, discussions, and critical texts, delivered in collaboration with Foreground. Conceived the Senior Lecturer in Fine Art at UWE Bristol and Foreground's Director, the research group consists of multidisciplinary academics from UWE Bristol. Document and Location offers a framework for academics and practitioners to critically engage in contemporary discourses about place and space, prominent in Architecture, Fine Art, Geography, and Photography. They assert that location transcends physical boundaries and documentation is more than mere record-keeping. Through practice-led research, the group aims to reinterpret documents, investigate specific locations, their communication methods, and consequently, the manifestation of place identity through representation.
