Regional History Centre (RHC)
Description
The Regional History Centre (RHC), established in 1997, conducts research on Britain's South Western counties' history and the impact of regionalism on shaping both domestic and international histories. Utilising Bristol as its hub, the Centre's expertise extends to Gloucestershire, Wiltshire, Somerset, Devon, and Dorset in England, including portions of South Wales historically linked to Bristol and Gloucester. Recently, the Centre has sought to widen its purview by establishing relationships with regions in Britain and Europe.
The RHC places significant emphasis on public engagement and knowledge exchange, fostering robust connections with several regional partners and institutions in the field of local history and heritage. Notable partnerships include Avon Local History and Archaeology, BCFM Radio, Being Human Festival, and the West of England and South West Women's History Network, among others.
The Centre is located within the College of Arts, Technology and Environment at UWE Bristol's Frenchay Campus. Its core team includes academic staff and Visiting Research Fellows.
