Description
Located in Fort William, Scotland, the Centre for Recreation and Tourism Research (CRTR) is an esteemed research institution specialising in a range of topics from adventure recreation to digital marketing. It collaborates closely with various partners, including the School of Adventure Studies, the Centre for Mountain Studies, and other UHI affiliates. Established in 2012, CRTR has been engaged in academic and applied research, trans-national projects, and has garnered an extensive network of global collaborators.
CRTR provides research and consultancy in areas such as nature-based tourism, visitor surveys, ethnographic research, destination development, marketing strategies, funding applications, and product development. CRTR has in recent years led or participated in various trans-national applied research tourism projects includingThe Coast that Shaped the World (through ERDF), TC-NAV (ERASMUS+), CULTIVATE (JPI Cultural Heritage), and a project exploring a regenerative tourism approach for rural community development in Scotland and Ireland (Royal Irish Academy). Additionally, CRTR manages the activities and membership of the global Adventure Tourism Research Association and advocates the growth of the Slow Adventure® movement.
