Centre for the Social History of Health and Healthcare (CSHHH)
Description
Established in 2005, the Centre for the Social History of Health and Healthcare (CSHHH) Glasgow, a collaboration between the University of Strathclyde and Glasgow Caledonian University, has grown into Scotland's premier institution for health and medical history. Its chief aims involve producing top-tier research, promoting knowledge exchange, and delivering teaching on various facets of the social history of health and healthcare in the modern era. Having secured funding from the Wellcome Trust, the Arts and Humanities Research Council, the Economic and Social Research Council, the British Academy, the European Social Fund, and the partnering universities, the centre boasts over twenty staff members and a vibrant postgraduate community.
Its members, who research the modern world since 1800 in geographically diverse regions such as the UK, Asia, Africa, North America, and Europe, cover a wide range of topics. These include contraception and sexuality, family health and medical services, occupational health and medicine, disability, psychiatry history, conflict and warfare, and the history of drugs, pharmaceuticals, and intoxicants.
