Centre for Research and Analysis of Migration (CReaM)

Description

CReAM, established in 2002 as a migration economics research centre, has since grown to incorporate research across a wide range of areas in applied economics. CReAM aims to inform the public debate on labour economics and migration in the UK and Europe by producing rigorous, cutting-edge research on topics relevant to public policy. As well as conducting empirical analysis of topics within its remit, CReAM contributes to the development of new theories and methodological advances in data analysis, ensuring the ability to contribute and inform on a wide range of issues of policy concern, and establishing a reputation for analysis that is open, transparent, and reliable. The staff at CReAM is drawn from top researchers across the world, and its research is regularly published in top peer-reviewed academic journals and promoted in widely read discussion lists. CReAM’s work is also often featured in the popular media and influences the public debate and the development of public policy.

Research conducted at CReAM analyses many issues in Applied and Labour Economics that are of both academic interest and public and policy importance. The cutting-edge empirical analysis researchers perform is based on real-world data typically drawn from surveys or administrative sources. The focus of this research is to identify the causal effects of different factors which allow researchers to draw conclusions for policy. Members’ work uses a variety of methodologies, from directly extracting patterns in economic data and exploiting natural experiments (reduced form analysis) to applying advanced economic modelling (structural analysis).

CReAM’s research agenda is organized into the following themes:

  • The Economics and Politics of Migration
  • Education, Wages and Careers
  • Inequality, Disadvantage and Gender
  • Technology, Trade and Labour Markets
  • The Economics of Social Issues
