Centre for Global Law and Governance (CGLG)
Description
The Centre for Global Law and Governance (CGLG), stationed at St Andrews, investigates the evolution and challenges of global order. Comprising staff, PhD Fellows, students, and external members, the Centre serves as a hub for theoretical, empirical, and normative discussions on international law, institutions, and governance. Their interdisciplinary approach incorporates insights from politics, law, economics, history, philosophy, and ethics, promoting wide-ranging thinking and pioneering research through regular events and publications.
Five core pillars guide the CGLG's work, connecting members with shared interests:
- Peace and security
- Trade and development
- Rights and ethics
- Environment and migration
- Leadership and agency
Established in 2020, the CGLG replaced the Centre for Global Constitutionalism (CGC). The CGC, a product of St Andrews' previous programmes such as the "Rethinking the Rules" project and the Wilson Programme in Constitutional Studies, facilitated interdisciplinary work on the ways constitutionalism shapes the global political order. The CGLG continues this legacy with its commitment to normative and practical scholarship.
