Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies (CPCS)
Description
The Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies (CPCS), situated within the School of International Relations at the University of St Andrews, is dedicated to interdisciplinary research and teaching. Its work revolves around understanding and addressing processes of conflict resolution and transformation to build long-lasting peace. CPCS's research is rooted in real-world experiences across a variety of geographic regions, including Africa, the Middle East, Latin America, Central and Eastern Europe, Central Asia, and China. The Centre is unique in its emphasis on positive peace, which extends beyond the absence of conflict and links peace to justice.
CPCS invites dialogue through traditional and innovative research outputs, participatory action research, public engagement, and educational activities. The Centre maintains a commitment to postcolonial, feminist and critical theory, offering a comprehensive and critical examination of peace and conflict resolution approaches across the globe. This includes local Scottish communities and aims to challenge past scholarship's legacies, embracing a justice-oriented approach.
Founded in 2005, CPCS has continuously upheld a commitment to critical approaches in peace and conflict studies. Over the years, the Centre has nurtured international collaborations with leading research centres worldwide and maintains strong ties with other institutions at St Andrews. Potential research students, MLitt/MPhil applicants in Peacebuilding and Mediation, and global colleagues interested in collaboration are always welcome.
