Handa Centre for the Study of Terrorism and Political Violence (CSTPV)
Description
The Handa Centre for the Study of Terrorism and Political Violence (CSTPV) specialises in examining the origins, dynamics, features, and repercussions of terrorism and political violence worldwide. Its academicians conduct research across various political and cultural contexts, adhering to rigorous, evidence-based scholarly analysis that is policy-relevant yet autonomous. Established in 1994, CSTPV is the oldest European institution devoted to terrorism research. A significant recent donation from the Worldwide Support for Development (WSD), led by Japanese philanthropist Dr Haruhisa Handa, has facilitated the expansion of CSTPV's research and educational endeavours.
CSTPV provides a range of part-time and full-time courses for learners at all levels interested in the study of terrorism and political violence. The Certificate and Advanced Certificate in Terrorism Studies are ideal for professional development, serving as gateways to further education. The MLitt in terrorism and political violence is a postgraduate programme available in both residential full-time and distance-learning part-time formats. The DProf is a part-time professional programme emphasising practical assignments over a traditional doctoral thesis.
CSTPV leads in the field of terrorism and political violence research, offering research collections, the CSTPV occasional paper series, and media commentary by its academicians, freely accessible to those interested in the subject. The academic team has published and contributed to numerous books, all of which are showcased in the virtual bookcase.
