Description
Established in 1990, the Centre for Russian, Soviet, Central, and East European Studies at St Andrews encourages research and instruction in Russian, post-Soviet, and Eastern European subjects. The Centre unites staff from diverse university departments with shared interests in this area. Activities sponsored by the Centre include hosting guest speakers, conducting casual colloquia, and providing a range of postgraduate courses that culminate in advanced degrees in Central and East European Studies.
The Centre's faculty oversee PhD students in several domains: Russian, Soviet, and post-Soviet literature, culture, and history of ideas from the 18th to 21st centuries; Russian, Soviet, Central, and Eastern European History; International Relations; Modern Russian and Central and Eastern European Art History; Russian, post-Soviet, and Central and Eastern European cinema; Orthodox and Eastern Christianity; Caucasus and Central Asian Politics and Security; and Russian and Central European Politics and Social Movements.
