Description
The University of St Andrews has a significant history of research and teaching in Mediaeval Studies. The Department of Mediaeval History, established in 1955, expanded to become the largest of its kind globally. The interdisciplinary Institute of Mediaeval Studies, founded in 2007, consists of over thirty international academic staff and multiple research associates. They offer an extensive range of subjects including, but not limited to, Political, Religious, Social, Cultural and Legal History, Mediaeval Languages and Literatures, Art History and Theology. The Institute was officially launched on 13th February 2008, reinforcing the long-standing tradition of mediaeval studies at St Andrews. By 2017-18, the Institute celebrated a decade as a research and teaching community that attracts scholars worldwide.
