Institute of Intellectual History

Description

Established in 2013, the Institute of Intellectual History serves as a focal point for intellectual history enthusiasts, both within the University of St Andrews and externally. The Institute's activities include:

  • Carrying out research in intellectual history globally, spanning from ancient to contemporary periods.
  • Democratising knowledge, linking ideas with policy, exploring marginal ideas, and advocating for sustainability and conservation.
  • Hosting seminars and conferences featuring preeminent scholars in the field.
  • Collecting and conserving works from influential intellectual historians and scholars.
  • Collaborating with fellow institutions and scholars globally.
  • Editing the journals 'History of European Ideas' and 'Global Intellectual History'.
  • Providing instruction for the MLitt programme in Intellectual History.
  • Promoting research at the doctoral level within the field of intellectual history.
  • Presenting the annual István Hont Book Prize for exceptional publications in intellectual history.
