Centre for Democratic Futures
Description
The Centre for Democratic Futures (CDF) is a multi-disciplinary team of academics who have developed a global reputation in the fields of democratic theory, governance and innovation, citizenship, political analysis, public policy and the history of democracy. The centre's goal is to identify threats to democracy and investigate strategies that ensure the resilience of democracy. The centre also encourages research informed by a wide range of theoretical and methodological positions. Current projects include investigating democracy in the information age, and the challenge of increasing higher participation in democratic decision-making.
Members of the centre carry out interdisciplinary research on the conditions of achieving democratic futures, ranging from conceptual debates to challenges of institutional innovation and public policy. The centre provides a forum to share ideas and information, supporting each other's research into a future-proof democracy.
Research at the Centre for Democratic Futures asks:
- how different attributes reinforce democracy (or not);
- what an ideal future democracy will look like;
- what innovations are needed to achieve these ideals.
