Political Engagement

Description

The Political Engagement Hub unites historians from Sheffield with a shared interest in the relationship between individuals and power, focusing on diverse periods and regions. These scholars interpret 'political' expansively, delving into formal and informal means of engagement. Their interests span from struggles for voting rights to the moral economy of the masses.

The Hub's members, comprising both staff and students, specialise in the history of Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Americas, ranging from the Middle Ages to the late 20th century. They view this broad range of interests as a chance to stimulate comparative discussions about power generation, challenges, and application.

Four intersecting themes underpin conversations within the Hub:

  • Protest and cultures of activism
  • Gender and political engagement
  • Power beyond the ballot box
  • Political engagement on micro- and macro-historical scales.
