Health informatics research group
Description
The subject of study is Health Informatics, which entails the exploration and management of digital technologies, medical data, and information with the intent of bolstering the health and wellbeing of patients, caregivers, and the public.
Key projects include the analysis of informal caregivers of HIV patients in Malawi, the investigation of data sharing and public health tools, a Shared Space, a Space for Sharing, and the PRIEST and Pre-Hospital PRIEST studies. Both qualitative and quantitative research methodologies are employed, involving interviews, focus groups, surveys, regression models, data mining methods such as genetic algorithms, and thematic analyses, including framework analysis.
The research is collaborative in nature, involving colleagues from the University of Sheffield and other institutions, spanning disciplines such as palliative medicine, public health, emergency medicine, psychiatry, biomedical engineering, sociology, and computer science.
Key areas of investigation include the analysis of health data and information, evaluation of health information systems, health information needs and behaviours, promotion of positive health outcomes in the Global South, and the study of wearables and digital health.
The research findings interest a range of stakeholders, including government departments, health trusts, and charitable organisations.
