Research on Research Institute (RoRI)
Description
The Research on Research Institute (RoRI) is an international consortium of 21 partners from 13 countries, spearheaded by a core team at Wellcome Trust, the University of Sheffield, UK, and the Centre for Science and Technology Studies at Leiden University, Netherlands. The consortium is responsible for the conception and execution of RoRI's projects and initiatives. It aspires to foster connections with individuals and organisations committed to enhancing research quality.
Significant resources expended on research can be squandered if research systems lack efficiency, impact, and fairness. Over the past decade, there has been an upsurge in engagement with Research on Research (RoR). Policymakers, funders, publishers, and researchers have become increasingly interested in utilising RoR methods to optimise the functionality of research and development (R&D) systems, understand the impact of investments, and influence shifts in scholarly communication and peer review models.
The Wellcome Trust, Digital Science, and the universities of Leiden and Sheffield collaboratively initiated the RoRI in 2019 to address the need for increased capacity and connectivity in RoR.
RoRI's mission is to transform ideas and evidence into practical solutions that enhance research culture and systems. This is achieved through collaboration with research-oriented individuals and organisations, data collection, and tool development.
RoRI supports interdisciplinary, mixed-method RoR, facilitates connections between academic RoR capabilities and the resources of its partners, and tests new tools, indicators, funding methods, and evaluation frameworks. It also offers an independent platform for learning, networking, and collaboration among researchers, policymakers, funders, and technologists.
