Migration, culture and community
Description
The Migration, Culture, and Community Research Cluster examines various research activities in the expansive fields of language and identity across cultural and national boundaries. The cluster members' linguistic, cultural, and disciplinary diversity, coupled with their unique range of specialisms, allows for a comprehensive and fruitful research base. The cluster encourages research in cultural and linguistic fields beyond conventional borders, in an era increasingly marked by multiple alliances, both linguistically and culturally. Amid the competition between globalisation and regionalisation, the research cluster promotes an open-minded research climate, leveraging its foundation as a School of Languages to facilitate cross-cultural and cross-linguistic dialogues. Current research encompasses:
- Literature and migration
- Migration and community studies
- Urban linguistics
- Transnationalism in literature and visual arts
- Multilingualism
- Autobiographical writing
- Cultural production in post-imperial societies
- Non-textual modes of representation
- Linguistic approaches to identity representation and translation in spoken, written language, film, and literature.
