Socio-spatial Urbanism Unit (SsUU)
Description
The Socio-spatial Urbanism Unit (SsUU) is a research centre dedicated to urban design, situated within the Department of Landscape Architecture at the University of Sheffield. This interdisciplinary team comprises scholars, educators, and professionals, investigating novel perspectives and theoretical frameworks centred on social interpretations of urban open spaces. SsUU endeavours to amalgamate social, spatial, and material aspects of human-environment interplays through the development of:
- A fresh disciplinary paradigm bridging the gap between landscape architecture and urban design, and disciplines such as environmental psychology and cognitive neuroscience, to tackle challenges in socially-inclined urban place-making;
- Groundwork for examining the practical applications of these novel theoretical constructs;
- Socially-focused methodologies for consolidating research, teaching, and practice.
