Centre for Public Law
Description
The Cambridge Faculty of Law has a long tradition of outstanding scholarship in Constitutional and Administrative Law.
Today a significant number of Faculty members continue to have research interests in these fields and in the area of regulation and regulatory systems. Current work in the Faculty covers a wide range of public law jurisdictions, in addition to the United Kingdom, including the European Union, the common law jurisdictions of the Commonwealth and the United States and extends from constitutional and administrative law and theory (including institutions, civil liberties, human rights, and judicial control) to the regulation of business and utilities.
The main aim of the Centre is to promote research in the area of public law, and to develop into a research centre of national and international reputation. Financial resources permitting, the Centre intends to do this by providing:
- a focal point for the exchange of ideas between academics, practitioners and others through a conference, seminar and lecture programme;
- administrative and research support for Faculty Members and Visiting Fellows from the Commonwealth and the United States and other jurisdictions engaged in relevant research projects;
- encouragement and development of research output by the Faculty's research students through a programme of work-in-progress seminars and research workshops by its Public Law Discussion Group;
- interaction with overseas scholars and practitioners through Visiting Fellowships;
- dissemination of research output through publication.
These aims are reflected in the events held by the Centre since its formation.
