The Centre for Digital Humanities at the University of Manchester brings together faculty, students, and external partners who work at the intersection of humanities and technology.
With a large concentration of humanities scholars in the UK and a strong tradition of innovation, the university leverages cutting-edge digital methods and technology to tackle new research challenges in the humanities. Noteworthy research areas include spatial humanities, distant reading, digital media studies, science and technology studies, data visualization, heritage digitization, and digital visual culture.
The MA in Digital Media, Culture and Society offers advanced interdisciplinary study, focusing on the critique and utilization of digital media and technology, with an emphasis on their cultural and societal implications. Additionally, the Minor in Digital Humanities enables undergraduate students to explore new directions within their subjects and engage in key debates of today.
At the University of Manchester, digital humanities research is conducted across the five Schools of the Faculty of Humanities. Digital technologies play a central role throughout the entire researcher lifecycle, and as a result, members prioritise supporting primary research using computational methods and tools, as well as digital outputs and dissemination. The Centre boasts a vibrant community of researchers and educators in digital humanities from all faculties within the university.
