Established in April 2021, the Centre for Latin American and Caribbean Studies (CLACS) builds upon the previous work of the Institute of Latin American Studies (ILAS). CLACS functions as an interdisciplinary centre committed to supporting and facilitating the endeavours of the Latin American Studies community in the United Kingdom and worldwide.

CLACS hosts a comprehensive program of academic and public events, offering opportunities for doctoral studies and early career training. It warmly welcomes Visiting Fellows, provides valuable online research resources, conducts independent research projects funded by external sources, and actively supports the research activities of other scholars specializing in Latin American studies, both within the United Kingdom and beyond. The Centre promotes scholarship across a broad spectrum of disciplines within the humanities and related social sciences. It also actively cultivates and strengthens connections with cultural, diplomatic, and business organizations with a vested interest in Latin America.

A distinguishing feature of CLACS is its world-class library, which is dedicated to the extensive study of Latin America and hosted by the Senate House Library. Furthermore, CLACS works together with the University of London Press to publish an open-access book series in Latin American and Caribbean Studies that contributes to disseminating topical research in this field.
