Description
The Centre for Health, Arts, Society and Environment serves as a collaborative space for scholars in the humanities and social sciences at the University of Liverpool, in addition to facilitating science-art collaborations. Formerly known as The Centre for Humanities and Social Sciences of Health, Technology and Medicine, the Centre aims to provide an interdisciplinary setting for collaborative research, critical inquiry, dialogue, and creativity, while engaging with local partners and practitioners.
The Centre seeks to achieve the following objectives:
- Establish a sustainable community of humanities and social science scholars who apply political, social, and cultural approaches to address medical, health, and environmental issues, while engaging with relevant communities of practice in Liverpool and beyond.
- Promote critical reflection and dialogue across interdisciplinary communities of practice.
- Advance methodologies and theories.
- Create a supportive and fruitful environment for doctoral and postdoctoral research, offering mentorship and peer support.
- Contribute to policy development and interventions.
- Promote social and environmental justice.
The Centre's activities include:
- Facilitating research and development (R&D) through its thematic focus areas.
- Conducting readings, seminars, and workshops.
- Disseminating information on grant funding, methodological training, events, and activities.
- Hosting the annual Iven's Lecture.
- Publicising contemporary research, commentary, and thinking through its blog.
