The Group focuses on investigating the materiality and social construction of households and communities. The exploration encompasses the nature of settled life, the influence of changing political configurations and environments on households’ constitution and their use of space, community creation, and the lived experiences of daily life.

The research spans from the ancient Near East and Mediterranean to Iron Age Britain and beyond, making it multidisciplinary and involving cross-departmental and international collaboration. The fields of specialization of the research include material culture, spatial, structural and settlement analysis, geo-informatics, quantitative methods, human osteoarchaeology, stable isotope analysis, and experimental archaeology.
